I will discuss a notion of the Ahlfors derivative for CR maps. This notion possesses several properties similar to those of the conformal counterpart and provides a new invariant for spherical equivalent CR maps from strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds into a sphere. The invariant can be computed easily and distinguishes many well-known equivalent classes of CR maps between spheres. In particular, it vanishes precisely when the map is spherical equivalent to the linear embedding. This is a joint work with Bernhard Lamel.
